Google Planning to Copy Apple-like Control over Devices
Google on the other hand wants to make most out of the Nexus and the fact that Apple has been dominating the premium smartphone market is something that further instigates Google. The company’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, has hinted that the upcoming Nexus devices have only Google’s name on them.

The start of February means that Google has started pushing out Android 6.0.1 security update to Nexus devices. Featuring some of the best specifications available on the market, along with a Google-AOSP approach, these phones offer the best long-term software experience (except maybe the HTC HD2).
About Making Comments on our Site: Patently Apple reserves the right to post, dismiss or edit any comments. Going forward, Nexus phones may only have the Google brand on them. Google’s plans are likely to have a negative impact on smaller OEMs, that have sought a boost in brand image, such as Nexus 6P’s development through Huawei, as compared to more recognized ones. This would be much like the manner in which Google is implementing its Pixel C project that includes components sourced from various suppliers.
While angering OEMs is a concern, it doesn’t have many choices for a non-Google operating system. According to the report, the goal is to create better high-end Android devices that will prompt longtime Apple loyals to finally make the switch. According to The Information, the company is now looking to take greater control over the hardware, and completely develop the new Nexus smartphones in-house. The result would be, rumors said, the third 7-inch Nexus tablet installment that in some reports was called Nexus 7 2016.

Google might be taking a page from its rival and changing the way it operates in the mobile phone space, at least on the manufacturing side. However, the report apparently claims HTC will still be involved this year, but Google will tighten the reigns.
