Google Play Books Updated With Discover Feature on Android

The feature is called Discover and is rolling out to Android, iOS, and the Web in 75 countries. There are a number of Google Play Books editorials that cover various topics with links to the books discussed.

In addition, as users read these articles or watch videos, the app will pull out the books that are mentioned, so users can read free samples or buy the books within the app. Additionally, the Discover section will also showcase titles that Google thinks you’ll be interested in based off of past books you’ve bought or read.

There’s more to it too. The feature allows users to find new books by browsing reviews, news, lists, videos and more. You can know if a particular book will be made or are being made into a movie.

Google Play Books features an organized home page that includes customized recommendations, genres, top charts, new arrivals and the ability to search for exactly what the reader is shopping for. Google claims this takes into account trusted sources, which suggests that you won’t be bombarded with sub-par articles.

“The feature is created to enhance your reading experience even further by helping you discover new books and find what’s right for you”, Eric Stromberg, Google Play Books product manager, writes in a blog post.

Google also offers Weekly Highlights, which will give you some of the best stories from the week. Sadly the integration isn’t really what it should be. You’ll need the latest version of Play Books (3.10.19) to check out Discover, which is available on APK Mirror.
