Google Play Music Will Soon Have Podcasts, Too

If you haven’t heard, podcasts are officially a thing. Upload up to 50,000 of your own songs to Google’s servers and you can listen to them on just about any internet-connected smartphone, tablet, or computer with a web browser.

Google announced in a blog post today that it is finally bringing podcasts to its Google Play Music app. Right now, unfortunately, this is only open to USA podcasters.

What makes Google’s podcast offering a little different, however, is that it’s using the technology gained from buying Songza to deliver podcast recommendations. Today that begins to change with Google announcing Podcasts are coming to Google Play Music.

Podcasts have certainly become a popular source for news and entertainment distribution over the past few years, and on Android we are spoilt for app choice, with several very strong options for discovery, managing and playing podcasts from all over the globe. Starting now, podcasters be able to add their own shows to the index, like with the iTunes podcast directory.

Regardless, Google Play Music’s step into the podcasting scene is a major acknowledgement of podcasts’ growing popularity, giving listeners a single integrated solution for all of their listening needs.
