Google Play Store Stable Version Download Available for Chrome OS

In other words, starting from now on, you will be able to download and install Android games, media content directly from the Google Play Store. It seems as if the speculation has finally come to fruition, as Google has begun to officially roll out the Google Play Store to certain Chromebooks running the latest version of Chrome OS. What I’m saying is that Chrome OS stable (v53.0.2785.129) now has access to Google Play and Android apps, though only on two devices at the moment. If you are using the Asus Flip or the Acer R11 on the stable channel of Chrome OS, let us know how you get on with this new feature. Click on it to open the store for the first time, and you’ll be guided through a set of terms and conditions, the Google login screen, and finally another pop-up with the actual Google Play terms of service. “A beta release of the Play store is available to users now on the Acer R11 and Asus Flip (and coming soon to Pixel 2015) and can be enabled from the Settings page”, a Google spokesperson told VentureBeat. Check out the stable channel to be sure.

Google, though, has released the update on the stable channel but it still remains to be a gradual rollout.

Without the Play Store, the entire operating system presented by Google would have been buried in the ground. This obviously raised a few eyebrows since it was these three devices that had received support for Google Play and Android app in the beta channel.

Venture Beat cited that Chromebook Pixel 2015 would also soon to receive the update. Since the Google Play Store is still in BETA phase for Chromebook, you should know that you might find errors or bugs which you should report to the developers so that they can fix them before they release the STABLE version of the official Android store for Chromebook.

It should be also noted that Google Play is disabled by default and requires to be manually enabled from Chrome Settings with the latest update. Furthermore, it still carries the Beta tag irrespective of whether it is in the stable channel or not. Getting on the Stable channel means the feature is more than ready for a bigger audience.
