Google rumoured to be abandoning ‘Nexus’ smartphone branding

That’s as reported by Android Police, which cites two “independent” sources.

And, the rumored Nexus Sailfish will be called as the Pixel and the Nexus Marline will be dubbed as the Pixel XL.

The phones were in leaks since quite sometime and they were codenamed Marlin and Sailfish.

In the past, these devices have been marketed under the Nexus branding.

It’s always been rumoured that Google is dropping its Nexus branding in favour of Pixel. According to Android Central, the brand was looking to try something different with its fresh phones.

When Google introduced its latest operating system titled Android 7.0 Nougat, smartphone users began to crave for the new device which will run the newest OS as it boasts of faster speeds and more efficient updates. Apparently, HTC branding will not appear on the devices. Apart from the new phones, Google smartwatches are also expected to be made available before the year ends.

Despite being manufactured by HTC – and carrying a very similar design aesthetic to existing HTC devices like the 10 and A9 – the Pixel and Pixel XL wont carrying any official HTC branding. Yesterday we saw reports about the new name for the upcoming Nexus Smartphones, and now we have some new leaks that suggest some interesting facts about the camera in Google Pixel XL.

Google already has a Chromebook, and an Android tablet- Chromebook Pixel C under the Pixel line-up.

The Pixel will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 128GB of storage, if its specs are the same as reports on the Marlin. Google is remaining quiet on specifics.

The Pixel is expected to have a 5 inch display with the Pixel XL having a 5.5 inch screen and are expected to be narrower devices that what is presently on offer.

Nexus Pixel phones may finally have an announcement date. While the rumors about Google building its own VR device have cycled between “yes” and “no”, it now looks like that plan was never halted and a device called Daydream View may be announced at this event.
