Google’s password-killer Abacus coming to developers

Google announced on May 20, Friday at its I/O developer conference that it has plans to replace traditional passwords with something it calls Trust Scores. Daniel Kaufman, the leader of Google’s ATAP (Advanced Technology and Projects) wing has discussed his vision regrading security and enforcement customizing latest technology, that is now under development in the incubation center.

And if the institution you are trying to gain access to needs more evidence, it can request a password or biometric. Some monitored metrics might include facial recognition, fingerprint authentication, typing patterns, tying speed, general behavioral data, voice recognition and location information. Backing up to Google I/O 2015, the ATAP team introduced Project Abacus, which allows Android to take different pieces of data and identify exactly who is holding the mobile device. So why are they still with us?

The way Project Abacus works is that instead of relying on passwords or two-factor authentication to open your Android phone, your device will instead authenticate you based on how you used your device.

Some users may understandably be reluctant in using the system, as it does involve giving up a certain amount of privacy to Google because of how it collects and stores their data.
