Google’s Vanessa Marcotte went for a jog – and never came back

Princeton, Massachusetts, a little town of less than 3,500 inhabitants, was suddenly spotlighted after the dead body of 27-year old Vanessa Marcotte, a Google Account Manager, was found there near her mother’s home.

When she didn’t return home by nearly 4 p.m., her family contacted the Princeton police. But it was then reported to Fox25 that, besides being naked, Marcotte’s hands, feet, and head displayed burn injuries, which indicates the possibility of Marcotte being sexually assaulted.

“We have a disgusting set of facts, a terrible circumstance here right now”, Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr said, according to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.

Police found Marcotte’s body in the woods near one of her favorite jogging paths at about 8:20 p.m., which was just off Brooks Station Road, according to WCVB Boston News. Authorities say it’s not clear if this was a random attack, and are asking residents in the surrounding area to stay vigilant. It was her father who went looking for her and found her body later in the day, according to the New York Post.

Following Vetrano’s death, a number of people took to social media to say that the victim should not have been out running at night.

He urged people “to use an abundance of caution”.

“It hits home”, said Popik, who noted she hadn’t seen Marcotte since high school.

John Marcotte described his daughter as highly dedicated to her job and said she was not romantically involved with anyone. Marcotte was last seen about 1 p.m. Sunday when she left for a jog in the central MA town. Previously, right after her graduation in 2011 from Boston University she worked in different marketing companies in Boston before moving to NY.

Marcotte’s previous employers at Waltham-based Vistaprint, where she was a marketing specialist, said, “She was always incredibly friendly and positive, and her smart, creative and innovative approach to her work made a huge impact here at Vistaprint”.

“We are asking (residents) to be very careful”. They urged anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area Sunday afternoon to call them.

She said to be known as a member of the Google team with an “ubiquitous smile”.

She remembered that Vanessa would visit bi-monthly on the weekends and jog.
