Google takes on Amazon with personal voice assistant Google Home

On Google Home, the assistant will help you find the music you want to listen to or the temperature you want your home to be.

Although it is meant to be more personal than the automated voice that Google now uses to respond to spoken requests on smartphones and computers, the company is simply calling it “Assistant”.

CEO Sundar Pichai demonstrated a conversation with Google’s new Assistant to an audience at Google’s I/O conference Wednesday, highlighting what he called conversational capability far beyond what other assistants can do.

The developers’ conference is also expected to include announcements about Google’s next moves in virtual reality and around its Android mobile-operating system.

“The real test is whether humans can achieve a lot more with the support of AI assisting them”.

Android powers about 80 per cent of the world’s smartphones, largely because Google gives away the software for free to device makers.

“Every single conversation is different, every single context is different, and we’re working very hard to do this for billions of conversations, for billions of users”, Pichai said. First – Google Assistant will be everywhere across all devices and services and will be the lynch pin that keeps the experience consistent no matter where the user is or what he is doing. It’s immediately apparent that this is Google’s attempt to take on and, perhaps, even kill the Amazon Echo.

As for when we’re likely to see them released for you and me, Google has said it will come out sometime later this year, but no price has been given as of yet.

The device connects to your home WiFi network and can also sync with Chromecast devices, meaning it can control TVs as well as other connected devices including speakers and smart appliances.

Google Home: Google now has an answer to the Amazon Echo.

Project lead Mario Querioz held the device in his palm, revealing a design that was shorter and wider than Amazon’s cylindrical Echo, which is powered by Amazon’s virtual assistant Alexa.

You could say Google has been the paper-based leader in VR, but otherwise you could say Google is well behind Facebook in VR”, Blau said.

One of the leaders when it comes to the world of technology, Google has been coming out with a large number of updates and upgrades in the world of technology, and has been bringing forward some of the biggest innovations in the markets as we know them to be.
