The addition links the cable to Taiwan, where the company’s largest data center in Asia is located.

The cable connects Google’s facility in Taiwan with a location in Japan, which itself is connected to the US via an undersea cable from the FASTER Consortium which has the honor of being the planet’s fastest fiber optic undersea cable.
On Tuesday, Yan Tang, Network Resource APAC Regional Lead at Google said in a blog post that fresh investment in network cables which now connect Taiwan to the FASTER cable from Japan should give Taiwanese residents better performance when browsing the web. The section between Japan and Taiwan can run at up to 26 terabits per second.
Google, the search giant, see more online footfall from Asia every day than any other continents and thus to tackle the everyday challenge the Mountain View company has invested in an Undersea cable which is said to provide 25 terabits per second connectivity. This is because the new pipeline is going to be tied in gradually to more and more servers over time, eventually linking the full contents of the data center directly to the FASTER cable. The cable operates by beaming light to transfer data, resulting in speeds of up to 60TB. The cable was also built outside tsunami zones, which should protect it somewhat from natural disaster-related network outages.
“You may not notice right away, but this new cable should help Google products and services load more quickly across the region”.

Google joined with China Mobile International, China Telecom Global, Global Transit of Malaysia, Japan’s KDDI and Singtel of Singapore to build the trans-Pacific cable between OR and two landing points in Japan, which entered service at the end of June. This data center connects million of individuals across Asia with quick access to services like Gmail, YouTube, or even Google’s cloud service. In addition to this extension, Google has recently built two data centers serving Asia, and has expanded its existing facility in Singapore.
