Apart from helping you get back to eating, it should also speed up your restaurant reviews – a big help to Google, which undoubtedly wants the foodie pics that usually go straight to Instagram and Twitter.

The company launched an experimental food photography service called Tablescape earlier this year but shut down the app in June, saying it would invest resources into other projects.

Level three Google Maps guides and above are apparently seeing a feature that essentially notices when they use their phone to capture a food picture at a restaurant or bar.

Google has unveiled a new food photo tool which is built into its Maps for Android app. The feature will allow users to attach images of their meals to places within Maps, in order to improve reviews.

If you are not interested to receive these notifications, you can even choose to opt out of these notifications. The thumbnail will appear when you search for an address inside the app, or with a long press to the map.

This doesn’t mean we’re giving up on food photography, you may see the influence of Tablescape in future apps.
