The new software update is only available for the Nexus 6, the Nexus 9, the 5X, the 6P and the Pixel C tab along with the Player and General Mobile 4G, which is an Android One device included in Google’s beta program. In fact, last night when Google released the Nougat, the first users to get it were those who were enrolled in the beta program.
As I was mentioning above, the Android 7.0 Nougat update is already rolling out for the supported Nexus devices.
“With the release of Nougat, Android’s security features can now be applied to work with apps instead of the device itself, making it easier to use an Android phone or tablet while still maintaining a secure device”, Google said in a blog post.
“We’re moving Nougat into a new regular maintenance schedule over the coming quarters”. In another interesting move, Google will now let you switch between your two most recently used apps by double-tapping the multitasking/overview key. The latest iteration of Android features extra battery-saving modes, supports multi-window multitasking, adds 72 new emoji to the OS’s expanded emoji lineup, and has built-in support for the upcoming VR platform called Daydream and the advanced 3D rendering API VulkanTM.
Don’t get upset if you don’t have any Nexus device. just wait a few months and you may get a notification to update your phone’s operating system sometime between November and January. Nougat offers seamless security updates that happen automatically in the background with no user action required.
“With all of these new devices beginning to run Nougat, now is the time to publish your app updates to Google Play”.

Calling it its “sweetest release yet”, Google said that the new update will reflect input from developers and users the world over. The new OS is coming with a slew of new features, improvements and fixes. The still crowd favorite Nexus 5 and the Nexus 7 2013 model, both of which have formally reached their end of life. Although, Nougat is arguably just a refinement of Android Marshmallow.
