Google updates Docs, Sheets and Slides apps on iOS

Split View, a multitasking function, is only available in iOS 9 as of late, but it did not come with support for Google Docs, Sheets and Slides when the software update was launched a year ago.

Google has been slowly updating its iOS apps over the months.

Google’s new update comes ahead of the iPad Pro 2’s rumored release this fourth quarter, possibly in October or November, and not alongside the debut of the new iPhone 7 models this September. While Slide Over enables users to swipe from the side of the display to briefly access another application, Split view lets two apps to be run simultaneously. Google Photos was one of the only Google apps that gain multitasking features back in March.

In the meanwhile, Google has also updated its Docs, Sheets, and Slides apps for Android, bringing improved table and chart functionality, reports Android Police.

iPad owners running iOS 9 can finally tap into the operating system’s Slide Over and Split View functions while using the Google Apps for Work suite.

The update adds multi-window support for Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets, on the iPad. The feature won’t work with tables that have more than 400 cells. It’s also worth mentioning that the (small) changelog included with the latest update specifies that “bug fixes and performance improvements” have been introduced for all three applications. Be aware, all three apps need to be updated to take advantage of the new auto-formatting. The updated apps will roll out gradually to all users.
