Google Updates iOS App With Support for Accelerated Mobile Pages

Google has developed “Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP)” to compete with Facebook’s “Instant Articles” to handle this shift; tying it directly to Google’s iOS application.

While the project is spearheaded by Google, Gingras is quick to emphasise that it is not coercing publishers and AMP will “succeed on the leadership of many, not the leadership of one”. And this improvement is primarily targeting the Google iOS app for devices like the iPhone and iPad. This essentially allows users to preload more important parts of websites as well as ignore general “bloatware” code such as unnecessary functions, options etc. when it comes to various news websites, blogs and even ecommerce stores. Just like on those services, you can find AMP pages by looking for the lightning bolt icon next to an article. What’s New In This Version: We’re excited to introduce some new features that will speed up your search and browsing experience in the Google app. • Accelerated Mobile Pages (“AMP”) – news and articles from many of your favorite publishers will now load instantly.

According to Google, the web pages adopting AMP technology will load up to four times faster and consume up to 10 times less data.

Google also gave a boost to Now cards. With the latest update, the Google app on iPhones and iPads is speedier than ever.

For a news site or any niche-based site to grow and fall not behind the rankings, adherence to the update would be necessary.

Google’s app for iOS has just been updated, and unlike previous upgrade occasions, today’s version brings some interesting new features to the table. Given Google’s dominant position in the Mobile OS market where it controls the bulk of smartphone Operating Systems being used now, in addition to the push for AMP on iOS devices, it could very well become a standard in the coming days.
