Google will launch Pixel phones next month and not Nexus phones

An Android Police report, quoting exclusive internal sources, states that Nexus loyalists can look forward to witnessing the unveiling of the Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones in an event on october 4.

The upcoming smartphones, for which Google has tapped HTC as its manufacturing partner, will be breaking Google’s six-year tradition of naming the devices with the Nexus brand. While the new report does not say much about the hardware features of Pixel and Pixel XL, but there have been numerous leaks and benchmarks suggesting what we can expect from Google’s upcoming flagships.

Despite being manufactured by HTC – and carrying a very similar design aesthetic to existing HTC devices like the 10 and A9 – the Pixel and Pixel XL wont carrying any official HTC branding. Internally, the devices will share quad-core Qualcomm processors, 4GB of RAM, and 12-megapixel cameras. We’ve seen so many leaks, rumors, reports, and various opinion pieces on Google’s upcoming hardware, so it’ll be nice to see all that finally end and have everything confirmed.

Do you like the sound of these new Nexus phones or were you hoping for something a bit different from them? Software is the main area Google wants to focus as of now in their smartphones. The smart home devices from Google doesn’t have Nexus branding. On the less confident side of information, they mention that the phones may get marketed as the “first phones built by Google”, but seeing how they are built by HTC, this is likely to mean that they won’t be bearing the HTC branding. If true, then Google is obviously walking away from the image the Nexus has established and is giving the Pixel brand an identity of its own. Even the latest Android Tablet from Google comes with the Pixel moniker. “Nokia is also planning to release it’s New Android Operating Mobile phones which has the same 5″ inch and 5.5” inch screen.

The new Pixel phones are expected to come out at an event on October 4 alongside the debut of Google Home, a 4K Chromecast dubbed Chromecast Plus or Chromecast Ultra, and a Daydream VR device called Daydream View.
