Googling yourself now leads to personal privacy controls

You will soon be able to search for your device on Google by just typing in “I lost my phone”.

My Account’s getting a new setting, too: Find My Phone. Since then, the portal has expanded to expose – and provide greater control over – a broader swath of the personal search and device data Google’s collating, and today sees the addition of tools to help streamline things further. Tools used to ensure this include Ads Settings as well as Privacy and Security checkups. In a few simple steps, you cannot only locate your phone, but also lock and call it, secure your account, leave a callback number on the screen, and more.

Best of all, unlike with “Find My iPhone” you can use this new feature with both Android and IOS phones and other devices such as the iPad or Android tablets. The voice prompt, meanwhile, goes live today for English-speaking users, as does Find My Phone. Plus it offers a tool for calling the phone, and lets you sign out of Google services remotely, which is helpful for protecting your account from hacks. But uniquely, it also includes links outside help if you’re having trouble, including to your phone carrier’s support line and contact information for local law enforcement.

Customers can begin using the new “Find your phone” feature now, and Google plans on adding search integration in the near future. Right now, users can already get access to that functionality through Google’s My Account feature, which serves as the nexus for people to understand and access the information connected to their Google account. In the latest version of the Google app, users can simply say “Ok Google, show me my Google account”, to view their My Account page. This is now available only in English, with other languages to follow.

Google also says that you’ll soon be able to access My Account just by googling your own name.

Google added in a blog post: “We’re also making it easier than ever to find My Account by searching Google”.
