GOP candidate goes macho to win Missouri governor primary

Former Navy SEAL officer Eric Greitens already has a remarkable resume that includes global humanitarian trips and founding a nonprofit to help military veterans find work.

Koster took a subtle jab at Greitens on Tuesday, denouncing a “disturbing political campaign” season that has featured “candidates shooting machine guns and doing sit-ups for the cameras”.

In Tuesday’s Democratic primary, Koster easily vanquished Leonard Joseph Steinman II of Jefferson City; former Kansas City Mayor Charles B. Wheeler, who served in the 1970s and is 89; and Eric Morrison, a bishop for Kingdom Word Ministry in Kansas City.

Democratic nominee Chris Koster launched his first television ad in the general election Wednesday morning, calling on his work as 10-year Cass County prosecutor.

Greitens isn’t a single issue candidate by any means, though. Since it’s a state, it needs a governor, and that governor might very well end up being Republican candidate Eric Greitens. Greitens got $1 million from California venture capitalist Michael Goguen, who has been sued by a woman alleging he sexually abused her for years. Goguen has denied the allegations.

Greitens addressed his victory party on Tuesday night. The Democratic incumbent governor is ineligible to run again due to term limits.

“So what is Eric Greitens hiding in the creases and crevices of his campaign?” the ad questioned.

Greitens set up a committee for a potential gubernatorial run just days before the February 26, 2015, suicide of Missouri Auditor Tom Schweich, another gubernatorial candidate. Though Greitens had no role, Schweich had believed that other Republicans were turning against him with negative attacks and rumors.

Before any attack ad was released, Koster announced to his supporters, “Tomorrow morning, you will see the ads against me begin, telling you what a frightful person I am”.
