GOP candidates prepare for debates

Much of the hype is driven by Donald Trump, to be sure. Immediately after the debate, the Pottawattamie County Republican Party will conduct a straw poll for voters to pick their favorite candidate.

The debate gets underway tonight at 9 p.m. Eastern time.

And that interest is reflected in audience numbers, as well: 4,500 people are expected to show up to watch Thursday night’s main event, according to Fox News, and the ratings are expected to far outperform the audiences for previous early season debates.

Both debates will be held at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.

A legal live stream outside of these options doesn’t seem to be available, so your best bet if you don’t have cable will be to follow along on Twitter, Facebook, and live blogs. Marcy Kaptur, D-Toledo, and Tim Ryan, D-Youngstown, said Democrats are the party of inclusion while Republicans continue to block access to voting, fight against affordable health care and speak out against marriage equality. If another candidate’s name is mentioned, that candidate will be allowed a 30-second rebuttal.

Young Republicans want their party to address issues related to energy reform and the environment in tonight’s debate in Cleveland.

While some may be tuning in in the privacy of their homes, others have inquired about where to watch the debate in a local, social setting. It will be aired on CNN.
