GOP delegates optimistic party will leave convention united
The Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, is covered in signage in preparation for the Republican National Convention.

Donald Trump wasn’t the first choice for numerous 72 North Carolina delegates heading to the Republican National Convention that is expected to nominate him for president this week. “All indications concerning the nominee seem to point to a relatively clear path for Donald Trump to reach the necessary votes”. If a delegate is unable to attend or, say, gets sick, then the Georgia Republican Party picks an alternate to take that person’s place. The nominating and seconding speeches provide additional opportunities to showcase prominent figures in the party. That resulted in a number of major Republican figures skipping the convention.
When asked if he thought it was good for Trump to be supported by a neo-Nazi group, Fife said, “Anybody who wants to support somebody in this country is absolutely free to do it”, adding “they don’t believe in anything I believe in”.
“I just completely and utterly reject this notion that (Clinton is) ahead of us”, Borges said. “I couldn’t ever imagine trying to get her elected under any circumstance by not voting for our candidate”. He’s not politically correct, and he’s direct. He just speaks his mind.
“I stood up in front of the congressional convention when I was running as a delegate and said I was running to be a Trump delegate and that I pledge my support to Trump”. “We have a very unconventional candidate. My expectation is we’ll be able to overcome the drama and unify”.
Brandishing his running mate’s job-creating credentials, Trump ticked through a list of statistics he said showed how Pence had pulled IN out of economic recessions: an unemployment rate that fell to less than 5 percent on his watch, an uptick IN the labor force and a decrease IN IN residents on unemployment insurance. He’s brought a lot of excitement to the party. “It’s a bit oversaturated, so I just hope that Americans will stay tuned into the election and upcoming debates to truly consider our country’s current issues and future”.
Members of Maine’s delegation tried to contest the decision on the floor of the convention hall, only to have their microphone turned off.
“Essentially, it sets the tone, and it’s a guiding document for our candidates that run as Republicans”, Walsh said.
What are you most looking forward to at the RNC? “We have a chance to show people those values”.
Waverly Woods, a Tea Party activist from Virginia Beach who backed Cruz in the primary, is now on board for Trump in Cleveland as a delegate from the 2nd Congressional District.
The underwhelming rollout continued when Pence got back to IN, where a few hundred people greeted him at a suburban Indianapolis airport hangar bereft of any “Trump-Pence” signs or other obvious trappings of a presidential campaign. Byler said he hopes Cuccinelli will help bring the party together in Cleveland. “Security is always a concern, but it will be greater this time”.
But they will seek unity in Cleveland when the convention opens Monday for four days, culminating in Trump’s planned acceptance speech Thursday evening.
“It’s a small contingent, and they won’t be there the whole time”, he said.
At the request of the Ohio Adult Parole Authority, about 50 Mahoning County jail beds, if needed, will be provided to house people who may be arrested in Cleveland during the convention, the sheriff said.
For liability reasons, the sheriff said he has denied requests by his deputies to work extra-duty security for private companies in Cleveland during the GOP convention.
“I’m excited for the experience and I’m honored that (Republicans) elected me” as a delegate, said Rep. Joel Stetkis, R-Canaan.
If I am right, this will be bad news for the aspirations of the Libertarian Party candidates, former Republican governors Gary Johnson and Bill Weld. Executives expect convention viewers who have not watched lately to notice the shift that has occurred throughout the 2016 campaign season. “It’s exciting to have the convention be this close”. He said he’s ready for a festive affair.
The site selectors will be in the Mahoning Valley on Monday and Wednesday, he said.

State GOP Chairman Matt Borges touts the combined RNC and state party effort and contends Republicans who were in “mourning” over Kasich’s drop from the race in May are beginning to coalesce around Trump.
