GOP hopefuls in undercard debate focus on economy
→ How do I watch the Republican debate? Jeff Angelo of Ames, a veteran broadcaster and communications industry manager, said he viewed the preliminary debate as a tie between Christie and Jindal. “Hillary Clinton is coming for your wallet, everybody”, Christie said. “But in the real world, it’s about getting results”, Jindal said a few minutes later. “It’s about actually cutting government spending, not just talking about government spending”, Jindal said. He parried each criticism into an attack on Clinton – drawing applause whenever he did.

Jindal, meanwhile, went after Christie and once even jabbed at former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who wasn’t on the stage, on their conservative principles. “She is the real adversary tonight”. Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana accused him of assenting to Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion and increasing food stamp enrollment in New Jersey. For the most part, though, he appeared uninterested in engaging Jindal.
While former Arkansas Gov. Huckabee will probably ride out the election for as long as he can, current New Jersey Gov. Christie is under pressure to start winning or call it quits. “A liberal is not one of them”.
Christie supporters said they were happy the candidate got any chance at all Tuesday to speak to voters, but his critics thought differently. Huckabee said. “Will we give them a good place to stay, a sandwich and medical benefits?”
On taxes, Huckabee pitched his “fair tax” plan that would replace income and investment taxes with a national consumption tax. They kept the discussion focused on bread-and-butter tax issues: income tax rates, road tax issues, the viability of a flat tax.
The network announced November 5 that, based on the average of polls from Fox, Quinnipiac University, NBC/Wall Street Journal and IBD, eight candidates met the threshold of 2.5 percent support. Jindal emerged on top the next year, and Christie ran the group the year after that.
“I respect them because they are willing to take it to us”, he said.
After participating in the first three primetime debates, the New Jersey governor was sent down to the “kids’ table” debate with former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee.
“The middle of America is hollowing out.” he said. There were times during the debate, Kasich sounded more like a Democrat. All of the Republicans took the opportunity to talk about whatever they wanted.
He dismissed a suggestion from Jindal that the candidates who spent time in Congress didn’t have accomplishments, citing his work on welfare reform in the 1990’s under Democratic President Bill Clinton.

Though debate moderators continued to contrast their “substantive” questions with the previous, much-maligned CNBC debate late last month, the only reference from candidates came when all four refused to answer a question on what Democrat they most respected – although Santorum did ultimately want listeners to know he respected his opposition for fighting for their beliefs.
