Officially introducing an uncharacteristically conventional running mate, Trump appeared in NY with Indiana Gov. Mike Pence for the first time as a ticket – an event that is normally one of the most intricately choreographed in any presidential campaign.

Trump did recognize, however, that he picked the conservative Christian to help unify a party that has struggled to come to terms with the real estate mogul’s unorthodox stances and off-the-cuff campaign style.

“I’ve been fascinated by politics and the American political process since I was a child”, Walsh said.

California hasn’t made an electoral decision in favor of a Republican presidential candidate since 1988, when the state rallied for President George H.W. Bush over Michael Dukakis. He is behind in most polls, both in battleground states and nationally, even though Clinton has had a hard few weeks of renewed focus on the controversy over her private email server. He nonetheless recently gave a nod to the “Free the GOP” movement by agreeing delegates should vote their conscience, but later reaffirmed he would support Trump as the nominee. “I think as people get to see the person that some of us have gotten to know, that’s going to help him in the general election, because I think people actually want to like him. Mississippi Republicans also expressed relief that the party has avoided a contested convention, which became a non-issue when Trump won the IN primary IN May and when Cruz ended his bid. The sole actor on it is Antonio Sabato Jr and the most prominent businessman is controversial PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel. Quarterback Tim Tebow? Check, and uncheck. But anticipation turned into awkwardness.

“I’m pretty excited about getting up there, not just about the convention events, but also the opportunity to meet with other folks”, alternate delegate and former state Rep. Matt Huffman said.

They are part of a force that easily numbers in the thousands who will guard Cleveland, the convention, as well as protesters, during this week’s convention. The group includes supporters of Trump, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Florida Sen. Several were reluctant do specify what they’re planning for fear that party leaders would thwart their plans before the start of the convention. “They were never threats”, Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort said in an interview with The Washington Post.

Orr said he’ll leave Cleveland before Trump’s acceptance speech Thursday. “And I sincerely hope he doesn’t represent its future”.

“It’s a great base for fund-raising for Republicans”, he said. No. It never is, with Dallas being the most recent example. “I think they’re sorry that their people lost, and they need to step out of the way of the 13 million voters that voted for Donald Trump”, he said of Trump opponents. “And the best thing they can do is to register voters”. “I’m going to be speaking at a school choice panel, for example”.
