Each of the Republican presidential candidates brings something good to the race for the GOP nomination and some things not so good. The debate’s focus on national security was a detriment for retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who has struggled on complex global matters.
Cruz has refused to publicly criticize Trump.
“We must deal frontally with this threat of radical Islamists, especially from ISIS”, said Senator Marco Rubio of Florida.
Trump accused CNN of being “unprofessional” for setting up other candidates to attack him.
Trump was largely spared from criticism by Cruz and Rubio, who said they understood why Trump had raised the idea of banning Muslims. Because nothing he could have done at tonight’s debate would dent the numbers among his supporters. That’s why he’s a victor – at least among those who were going to vote for him all along.
When asked what he thought of Trump’s proposal to ban all Muslims, former Pennsylvania Sen.
Tuesday’s face-off also drew a big audience on the Internet, which is measured separately from the TV broadcast.
The 5th GOP Presidential Debate is happening in Las Vegas Tuesday night. “But among Republicans the two issues are about even”. The moderators seemed to pointedly try to pit Cruz against Rubio and there’s a reason -the two are quickly shaping up as the Trump undercard. If your eyes are glazed over like mine, this is what it’s like to be on the floor of the U.S. Senate.
Here’s a round-up of some of the best moments of Tuesday night’s debate – the great call-outs between candidates, the best questions, the memorable foreign policy analyses. He even earned a nice comment from Trump, who called him one of the most decent men he knows. “You have those on the right who clamor and say, oh, we will spend anything on the military, and those on the left who say the same for domestic welfare”, Sen.
Newsweek reported then that the Bush administration had abandoned plans for an air campaign in Afghanistan because it couldn’t find enough worthwhile targets – not because George W. Bush was too timid.
But the fed-up factor has gone a long way toward elevating Trump and diminishing the potency of Bush, his prime antagonist on Tuesday night. “Right now, Donald is great at one-liners, but he’s a chaos candidate and he’d be a chaos president”, Bush said. What about “the nerds will figure it out” didn’t they understand? So we’re not even half-way to the end.
As the saying goes – stick a fork in it.
Of course, Trump hit back, and the candidates traded personal insults multiple times throughout the debate.
CARSON: “But there comes a time when you’re on an airplane, they always say, in case of an emergency, oxygen masks will drop down put yours on first and administer help to your neighbor”.
Carly Fiorina says all of the country’s problems and wounds can be healed by a tested leader such as herself, citing her experiences beating breast cancer, burying a child and climbing the corporate ranks to eventually become CEO of Hewlett-Packard. She tended to fade in the background, however, much as her campaign has done in recent weeks.
On previous visits to some of the March primary states, Cruz has told voters their job is “to make sure that the next Republican nominee for president is a real and genuine conservative”.
The comparisons to the last election remain staggering. He was vintage Christie, staring into the camera and emphasizing his D.C. outsider status.
A poll from last week showed Christie had doubled his New Hampshire support in little more than a month. It makes sense to those who are buying into the Trump Ticket that if a terrorist wants to kill you, take out them, their families and anyone connected with them. The look on his face said it all – he knows he’s not part of the establishment.
