GOP seems to struggle with Haley as ‘face of the party’

Trump, of course, did take it personally, blasting Haley on Twitter for accepting campaign donations from him in the past and calling her “weak” on immigration policy.

“Look, that doesn’t mean that we agree with Governor Haley on everything; we surely don’t”, Obama’s press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters. We must resist that temptation.

Haley herself said in a news conference Wednesday that Ryan gave her tips like putting a cough drop in her mouth, but nothing more substantive than that. Conservative radio host Laura Ingraham tweeted that Haley missed her opportunity to stand with working people who want borders enforced.

“I think she’s right – I am angry”. Trump also taking a swipe at her for asking campaign contributions from him. He says, “You have to think that every candidate who is running is already thinking about, ‘If I’m nominated, with whom would I want to run?'”

These comments generated criticism from those in the Asian-American community – particularly South Asian Americans, who viewed her comments as evading the problems of racial inequity. She called them out for what they have done, just like Obama called out Democrats and Republicans.

Haley also talked about the events that thrust her into the national spotlight last summer – the Charleston church massacre and the removal of the Confederate flag from the grounds of the SC state capitol.

The GOP response to President Obama’s State of the Union highlighted divisions within the party and “doubled down” on a rejection of the angry conservatism espoused by the front-runners. If anyone doubts Donald Trump’s status as an utter outsider, or that the Republican Party is rattled by his high standing in the polls, the latest evidence is in the convergence of Tuesday’s speeches.

Rinker says she thinks Haley would be an excellent choice for vice president.

Many of the GOP presidential candidates like Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio and Chris Christie have called her.

Later, repeating a refrain from his speech Tuesday night, the president said, “When politicians insult Muslims, including Muslim-Americans, including Muslim-Americans in uniform fighting on our behalf, when a mosque is vandalized or a kid is bullied, that doesn’t make us safer”.

“What I say about my other friends who are running for president, they don’t throw stones”, she said.

“She’s very weak on illegal immigration”, he said.

Haley said that Republicans share the blame with Democrats for the nation’s distrust of Washington and need to “recognize our contributions to the erosion of the public trust in America’s leadership”.
