In his opening remarks at the Faith & Freedom Coalition Conference, Perdue urged attendees to recite a prayer for Obama that includes the words “let his days be few”.

“I think we are called to pray”, Perdue began.

Verse 9 says “Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow”.

May his children wander as beggars and be driven from their ruined homes.

After waiting a beat, Perdue said, “And let another have his office, ‘” drawing laughter from the audience.

Here’s more: “Let the creditor seize all that he has, and let strangers plunder his labor”.

12 Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children.

Let his posterity be cut off; In a following generation let their name be blotted out.

Exact translations vary, of course, but Psalms 109 is intended as something of a curse.

May the LORD never forget the sins of his fathers; may his mother’s sins never be erased from the record.

The freshman senator from Georgia took the mic at The Road to Majority (a Christian conservative gathering, which Trump will keynote on Friday) where he invoked a bible passage to explain his feelings on Barack Obama. Perhaps when he said this morning, “We should pray like Psalms 109:8 says”, he had no idea just how provocative a Scriptural reference he was making.

Republican Sen. David Perdue today joked about praying for President Obama’s days to be short.

Indeed, the Georgia Republican’s office told reporters after the speech that Perdue “in no way wishes harm towards our president”.
