GOP senator: “Tough optics” in blocking Supreme Court nominee
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, a Republican presidential candidate, commended McConnell for resisting an examination of the nominee. Some Senators admit that they will confirm Obama’s Supreme Court pick during the lame duck session if they lose the presidential election in November. Why would we deny the voters a chance to weigh in on the make-up of the Supreme Court?

Garland was chosen by Obama to fill the seat of the late Justice Antonin Scalia, who died in February.
“There is no magic asterisk in the Constitution, no fine print, that says “not in an election year” or “not during the last year of an opposition President’s term in office.'” Markey said”.
Following days of talks regarding who’s going to be endorsed by Barack Obama for the position in U.S. Supreme Court, the President has nominated a veteran federal appeals court judge.
Democrat Conner Eldridge, a former USA attorney for the Western District of Arkansas who is challenging Boozman’s re-election bid, said in a statement Wednesday, “The American people deserve to have this nominee fully vetted so they can make an informed decision and have their voices heard”.
However if the nomination would be approved, Garland may not reflect well on Obama’s legacy because he does not have the same outlook on the law as the president and some of the other liberal justices. Let me tell you I don’t want to say anything now, but I would find it very hard given the statements that he’s made. As for the timing of the nominees, it is true that it is unusual to have a nominee appointed and confirmed in an election year, but it has definitely been done many times in American history.
But it’s not clear the Republican-controlled Senate will even hold hearings on the nominee, delaying confirmation for a year hoping a Republican will become president next January.
Frank said the first step for Judge Garland is to meet with individual senators.
Hassan said, “The Senate has a responsibility to provide ‘advice and consent, ‘ and every Supreme Court nominee should be considered based on his or her specific qualifications”.

“I have fulfilled my constitutional duty, now it’s time for the Senate to do theirs, ” Obama said. It’s up to the Senate Judiciary Committee to call for hearings.
