With the start of the 2015-16 men’s hockey season around the corner, the Big Ten coaches voted on where they think teams will finish and what players in the league fans should keep an eye on. Big Ten semifinalists are Indiana’s Nate Sudfeld, Iowa’s Jordan Lomax, Michigan’s Desmond Morgan, Michigan State’s Jack Allen, Minnesota’s Jon Christenson, Ohio State’s Jacoby Boren, Penn State’s Ben Kline, Purdue’s Robert Kugler, Rutgers’ Quentin Gause and Wisconsin’s Derek Watt.
Compher, Werenski, Hildebrand and Fasching were unanimous selections.
Minnesota defeated the Wolverines in the Big Ten championship game last season and the Gophers were the lone representative in the NCAA Tournament’s 16-team field. Joining Kloos and Fasching on the Big Ten Players to Watch list were JT Compher, Kyle Connor and Zach Werenski of Michigan, Jake Hildebrand and Mackenzie MAcEachern of Michigan State, Anthony Greco and Nick Schilkey of Ohio State, David Goodwin and Eric Scheid of Penn State and Grant Besse of Wisconsin.
MacEachern compiled a career-high 26 points in 2014-15, scoring 11 goals and adding 15 assists. The 6-foot-3 forward and six multi-point games and tied for the team lead power-play goals (five) and game-winning goals (three).
Michigan State hosts Western Ontario on Oct. 4 in an exhibition match-up before beginning the season Oct. 9 in the IceBreaker Tournament hosted by the University of Maine.
