GoPro 360 Degree Odyssey Camera Program Launches
Instead of dragging and clicking through the video on your desktop, watch the VR video on your smart phone through the Youtube app. That is the kind of virtual reality experience we are headed for.

Video recorded with Odyssey can then be upload straight to Google‘s Jump Assembler (piece No. 2) that uses advanced computer vision and the computing power of the Google cloud to process the footage.
A rig holds 16 GoPro cameras designed for Google Jump during the 2015 Google I/O conference on May 28, 2015 in San Francisco, California.
The Odyssey will be available through an early access program for now, as long as you’re based in the U.S., Canada, UK, the European Union, Japan or Brazil. “Jump” is a type of platform, which was first introduced last May at Google I/O that allows anyone to create 360-degree video capture rigs.
GoPro has begun taking purposes from media corporations, filmmakers and different professionals to purchase its $15,000 digital actuality filming system. This week, the company made the device official by giving it its own landing page on the GoPro site and by officially naming it the Odyssey.
“Virtual reality is a promising new innovation with incredible potential for commercial and artistic applications”, GoPro president Tony Bates said in a statement, TechCrunch reports. Also included are 16 array bacpacs with syncing cables, a microphone and a custom-built ultra-rugged Pelican case for carrying it around in.
The cost could be estimated due to the 16 GoPro Hero 4 cameras mounted on the large contraption, which come to around $8,000 themselves.
While GoPro notes that the Odyssey contains 16 rechargeable lithium-ion batteries (1160mAh each) thanks to the GoPro units, they state that “battery life will vary depending on recording times and video mode selected”. The rig is capable of capturing 8K spherical video at 30 frames per second.
GoPro and Google are now only selling the Odyssey to those it deems qualified.

Only select content partners will be able to get the Odyssey; if you’re interested, you’ll need to apply at GoPro’s website.
