GoPro Developer Program Announced

Struggling camera maker GoPro has a new idea to boost business-connect its camera to other products. GoPro also announced a “Works With GoPro” verification program, which will include a logo that partners can display on their websites, product boxes, and marketing materials. With the announcement, it was revealed that BMW and Fisher-Price have been integrating the camera with their products.

GoPro held an event in San Francisco, California to highlight the new program, where it announced there are more than 100 companies partnering with GoPro, including brands from BMW, Fisher-Price, and Polar. Telefonica has built a live-streaming app for GoPro cameras, and Timecode Systems has developed software to timecode synchronize GoPro footage for professional TV and film productions.

“We are excited to see the world’s most versatile capture module to become even more relevant in our customer’s lives”, said GoPro CEO Nick Woodman.

There’ll also be an official standard for “accurate and reliable” mounts, tripods and accessories, which will mean more weird and wonderful ways to attach the action camera to various objects.

In other words, if a BMW M driver goes to a track day with a GoPro and a smartphone, they can view the recording of them on the track while the Laptimer app shows a graphic depiction of their track position, as well as other telemetry information. “The GoPro Developer Program is a way for us to celebrate the innovative work of our developer community and more importantly, help enable what comes next”.

“We provide these toolkits to these companies so they can integrate their products to our products”, said Adam Silver, head of the developer program.
