GoPro Has Sky-High Hopes for Its New Selfie Drone ‘Karma’

The Karma drone was originally meant to launch in early 2016, but was delayed until September – but now it’s here.

Finally, there was the launch of GoPro’s new quadcopter drone, Karma, which was initially billed as the headliner of the event.

There’s a new linear view setting for both cameras too which gives you wide angle video and photos without the heavy distortion usually associated with extreme wide angle lenses.

Critically, the Karma doesn’t appear to be a rip off of another drone or features.

It also includes most of the Hero 5 Black’s impressive feature set, including the electronic video stabilization, waterproofing down to 33 feet and voice controls, and works with existing GoPro mounts and accessories. Paul Coster, an analyst at JPMorgan Chase & Co., said the high-profile event may signal the Karma will impress investors.

The top-of-the-line Hero5 Black sells for $399 and is waterproof without a separate housing.

The Hero5 Session costs $300. Both will be available October 2. That’s right, now when you want to take your Hero 5 Black or Session camera for a spot of underwater shooting, you’ll no longer need a special case.

A bundle with the Karma drone saves customers $100 off the price of buying the camera and drone separately. Users can then access the footage from anywhere, and edit it either with mobile devices or desktop computers. During the introduction of the Hero 4 Session previous year, GoPro CEO Nick Woodman stressed the importance of software tools that would let GoPro users easily create content with all of the footage they captured.
