Fans are invited to come and pay their respects to the hockey legend.

“You get one of those and you are pretty proud of it and I’ve had the pleasure of getting a couple in my career”, Thornton said Saturday as he remembered Howe, the day after the National Hockey League legend died at age 88. “As a kid growing up, my father and my father’s father talked a lot about Gordie, and he became a bigger-than-life figure for me”. “He had tremendous stamina”, Sandford said on Friday. No. 9 meant I got a lower berth on the train, which was much nicer than crawling into the top bunk.

“He played the game in a way that really no other superstar played it”, Rutherford said. He had the ability to do that because he was so darn strong and he handled the puck so well.

What Gordie Howe did during those years in Houston was remarkable for any player, not just a player of his age.

As tough as Howe was on the ice, even his fiercest rivals acknowledged his gentle demeanor away from the rink. You think of Gordie Howe – the way he played, the way he conducted himself.

Howes wife orchestrated a plan to get “Mr. I never met Howe, and I never had any type of interaction with him, so I can’t write about Howe the person. But we all did about the same. “But when you enter that room with such a great player like him, it was special”, Rutherford said. Usually, since I cheer for the Leafs, Oilers and Coyotes, I don’t generally have a rooting interest in the Playoffs, and things take a turn for boring after the first round (which is 99% of the time the best round). “He was not dirty, he was not vicious, he was hard-working and he was durable”.

Crosby and the Penguins now find themselves one win away from lifting the Stanley Cup, but they spent more time discussing Howe than anything else on the eve of Game 6 against the San Jose Sharks.

“It felt alright out there”, left winger Chris Kunitz said. “But if you ever raised a stick or an elbow, he’d be more than willing to do the same to you, that’s for sure”.

Former Grand Traverse County Administrator K. Ross Childs played against Howe four times as a college hockey player in the 1950s in friendly University of MI versus Red Wings games.

“Three plays later, Gilles went to check Gordie again and Gordie saw him coming and gave Gilles an elbow that broke his jaw”, Parent said. “And yet he was a very gentle, kind soul off the ice”. While scoring at that pace, Howe racked up 1,685 penalty minutes – more than fellow Hall of Famers Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Marcel Dionne combined. “Everybody knows who Gordie Howe is; they will never stop talking about him, just like they will never stop talking about Muhummad Ali and all of the greats in other sports”. “He was a great man”. “But Ill tell you, because of what Gordie has done, for us mere mortals who have played this game, being No. 2 is not so bad.”.

Thomas was pleased to be drafted by the Bills in part because Buffalo had the NHL’s Sabres, a team he’s grown to love. Players who will hit free agency on July 1 are evaluated, as are possible trade targets.

On the open market, there are plenty of forwards who’d look good in a Bruins uniform – Steven Stamkos, Kyle Okposo, Troy Brower – but there are no bargains in that end of the UFA pool. “Personal accomplishments or not, team comes first”.

Whatever happens, Bruins fans can expect a fair amount of action this summer.

“We felt guys were slotted in the right spot”. He’s a role model that I wish more present day athletes would follow.

The team’s managers should put their foot down. They’re probably laughing and bracing for it now. “That’s why they’re struggling”.
