Gordon declines option to stay with Royals in 2016

The crowd that flooded downtown Kansas City for a Royals World Series championship celebration has shattered expectations. For the last five seasons, Gordon has averaged 19 runs per season above average per Defensive Runs Saved, 13 runs per Ultimate Zone Rating, and 12 runs per Total Zone Rating.

The four-time Gold Glove victor declined his player option to stick with the team through the 2016 season.

The winners of those defensive awards will be announced next week. Alex Gordon is expected to decline his $14 million player option and elect free agency.
