Gordon re-fractures right ring finger

Eric Gordon refractured the ring finger on his right (shooting) hand in the New Orleans Pelicans’ 104-96 to the Utah Jazz on Saturday night. Rodney Hood, Shelvin Mack and Trevor Booker scored 11 points each in the win.

Rudy Gobert grabbed 18 rebounds and blocked two shots for the Jazz, who broke open a 70-all tie with a 14-0 run to close the third quarter.

– Derrick Favors’ dominance in the paint saved the Utah Jazz from losing yet another game in which they’d squandered a double-digit lead. Anthony Davis missed 14 of his first 16 shots before rallying to finish with a team-high 29 points on 11 of 31 from the field.

The Jazz shot 53 per cent (19 of 36) in the first half while holding the Pelicans to 39 per cent (19 of 49). His 3-pointer with 2:50 to play in the third tied the game at 70-70 after the Pelicans had trailed by as many as seven points in the quarter. In the fourth quarter, New Orleans had a five-minute stretch in which they missed six consecutive shots. But Utah, which led by as many as 14 points in the second quarter, was up just 51-45 at halftime.

Hayward hit both free throws, after which the Jazz kept possession and went up 78-70 on Favors’ layup. “That would be really unfortunate because he worked so hard to get back, and I really thought he was playing good basketball”.

The third quarter of the regular season was a tough one for the New Orleans Pelicans, and the staff at Pelican Debrief took the time to answer some questions about the team and season.

The losses on the court are becoming increasingly common – Saturday’s, a 106-94 setback to the Utah Jazz at the Smoothie King Center, was New Orleans’ fourth straight – and the personnel losses are getting downright repetitive. The visit to New Orleans marked the end of a four-game road trip on which the Jazz went 1-3.

It’s the latest in a string of injuries for the Pelicans, who have missed 187 player games to injury and illness this season.

On a brighter note, Anthony Davis set the franchise record for points scored in a game against the Detroit Pistons by scoring 59 points.
