Gorillaz collaborator Jamie Hewlett has confirmed that he and Damon Albarn are working on the group’s next album, with the release scheduled for 2016.
He called Kanye West “unique”, Taylor Swift “remarkable but not unique”, Drake “not as consistent as he could be” and said Rihanna was “cool”.
Aside from 2012 single ‘Do Ya Thang’ – a one-off collab with James ‘LCD Soundsystem’ Murphy and Outkast’s Andre 3000 – Gorillaz fans have been starved of new music since the virtual outfit dropped The Fall four years ago.
“That’s next year. I’m working on it at the moment, and it’s going very well”.
The revelation comes in a new interview with Hewlett in DIY Magazine as part of a promotional push for his upcoming art exhibit titled “The Suggetionists” at the London’s Saatchi Gallery. He was most kind to Future saying the Atlanta rapper was, “really interesting, and sometimes exhilarating”.

Meanwhile, animator Hewlett told NME that the band’s visual look will also be altered for their fifth album. “Or I’ll just go into the countryside and sit by the sea and cook and walk and do yoga and eat porridge”. “It’s going to be a different look”. And then as soon as we get off, I say, “Never again”. “I want to go somewhere completely opposite of that”.
