Gov. Inslee: Washington Will Welcome Syrian Refugees

“We do not discriminate against people due to their faith”. Those refugees are first screened by officials from the United Nations and organizations such as the Red Cross from among those who have fled to camps in neighboring countries. He may be referring to a number given for migrants who arrived in Europe, from nine different countries, by taking a specific Mediterranean sea route in 2014 (seventy-two per cent). Several USA governors echoed the sentiment as well, including Gov. Rick Snyder in MI, Gov. Robert Bentley in Alabama, Gov. Asa Hutchinson in Arkansas and Gov. Greg Abbott in Texas. They were joined by the Democratic governor of New Hampshire. Well, President Obama apparently learned nothing from the April 2013 Boston attacks in which Chechen refugees Dzokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev killed and wounded 269.

In a speech at the G20 summit in Antalya, Turkey, President Obama called the anti-Syrian stance un-American.

And so we have to, each of us, do our part. “It is good to remember that the United States does not have a religious test”.

A clearly agitated President Barack Obama on Monday used the world stage to call out Republican presidential candidates for being counterproductive, “talking as if they’re tough” on ISIS and stoking fears about Muslim refugees from Syria. On Sunday, Jeb Bush also said that, although he isn’t entirely opposed to helping refugees who’d been screened, “I think our focus ought to be on the Christians who have no place in Syria anymore”. “There will be an intensification of the strategy we put forward, but the strategy that we are putting forward is the strategy that ultimately is going to work”.

That view was seconded by Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff of California, the ranking member of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

“See that’s why it’s important to define what it is we’re fighting”, Cruz said.

“Washington will continue to be a state that welcomes those seeking refuge from persecution, regardless of where they come from or the religion they practice”. That means 22 sitting GOP governors have rejected Obama’s plans-and only nine sitting GOP governors haven’t come out against the plan. Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire said her state would not accept the refugees.

The threat posed to Texas by ISIS is very real.

It is not clear that the states have the legal authority to prevent the settlement of refugees admitted to America, but they may be able to prevent them from accessing any crucial state support.

He further said that solving the ongoing political crisis in Syria that has taken the form of a civil war would help in driving out the extremists.

CNN’s Dana Bash confronted Cruz on his position, questioning if the situation was different than when his father entered the United States as a refugee from Cuba.

Cruz told reporters that we should accept Christians from Syria, and only Christians, because “There is no meaningful risk of Christians committing acts of terror”. “Now, on the other hand, Christians who are being targeted for genocide or persecution, Christians who are being beheaded or crucified, we should be providing safe haven to them”.

Cruz plans to introduce legislation in the Senate this week to cut off federal funding for refugee resettlement, allying himself with Ben Carson, perhaps Cruz’s closest competitor in the presidential race.

Sen. Ted Cruz took the same stand Sunday, speaking to CNN on “State of the Union”. “They will be either executed or imprisoned either by Assad or by ISIS”.

“I do not trust this administration to effectively vet the people who are proposed to be coming in, in order to protect the safety and security of the American people, so I would not permit them in”, Christie said.

Even as he spoke though another Republican presidential contender sought to one-up his rivals.
