Gov. John Kasich brings campaign home to Ohio

“I want John Kasich to be the next nominee of the Republicans and also to be the next president of the United States”, Schwarzenegger said, recordinging himself with his own cell phone camera.

John Kasich became the first presidential candidate to visit Toledo during the 2016 campaign cycle, as the OH governor attracted a crowd of about 500 to the SeaGate Convention Centre this evening.

Kasich has argued emphatically that his ability to win his home state of OH makes him the best candidate for Republicans looking to win the White House. Kasich is banking on winning Ohio’s 66 GOP delegates – the state is a winner-take-all state – and using that momentum to pick up more delegates.

Kasich has said his strategy for remaining in the race relies on a brokered convention -he is simply too far behind at this point to realistically catch up in the delegate race.

Several days before the New Hampshire primary, Schwarzenegger did a “tele-town hall” with the OH governor and told Kasich, “You are the Terminator”.

“Gov. John Kasich is a noteworthy exception”.

We’ll start by noting that polling experts typically urge caution when comparing head-to-head matchups for the general election this early in the campaign cycle.

But Kasich hasn’t been shy in going after other candidates, particularly Marco Rubio, for their inability to do anything to stop the billionaire businessman on turf perceived as more friendly to their efforts. Instead, he talked of his desire to run a positive campaign.

Kasich was introduced as “great leader” by Ron Christie, a former assistant to Vice President Dick Cheney, who described the OH governor as his mentor. The state holds its primary on Tuesday. So, for example, if Trump got 49 percent of the vote and Ted Cruz came in second with 19 percent, Trump would get all 32 Idaho delegates.

Marco Rubio endorsed the #NeverTrump movement on Twitter, but then begrudgingly said he would support the eventual Republican nominee during Thursday night’s debate.
