Gov. Pence, Sen. Coats Endorse Lt. Gov. Holcomb
The 22-member Indiana Republican state committee is voting Tuesday on the nominee.

The interview with Pence came just hours before Trump’s nomination speech, in which he is expected to focus on national security, terrorism and trade, among other issues. “And they’re all being bombarded”. He called the IN governor a “divisive and unpopular” candidate who has supported discriminatory politics.
Indiana Republican Craig Dunn said that his state’s governor, Mike Pence, “is going to be a firefighter” – extinguishing political blazes caused by presidential nominee Donald Trump. On June 30, she issued a preliminary injunction against an IN law signed by Pence that bans abortion exclusively for the reason of the child’s sex, race or disability (including but not limited to Down syndrome).
Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb, U.S. Rep. Susan Brooks and U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita all made a decision to run for governor and all attended the convention.
Mike Pence’s speech during the RNC comes six days after Trump revealed on Twitter that he was his vice presidential pick. The Republican governor hasn’t acted in the case.
Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb said Monday that Pence promised him financial support and campaign resources if the Indiana Republican state committee selects him during a closed door meeting on Tuesday.
Holcomb was nominated to fill the remainder of Sue Ellspermann’s term as the lieutenant governor when Ellspermann resigned in March 2016 to become the president of Ivy Tech Community College.
Sen. Dan Coats (R-Ind.) said the speech saved the night after one-time presidential candidate Ted Cruz was booed off the stage since he didn’t endorse Trump during his prime-time speech.
“The idea that his network, financial or otherwise, would pack up if someone other than Eric Holcomb were selected seems very inconsistent with the governor’s own words”, Brooks spokeswoman Dollyne Sherman said.
“He knows that the introduction I prefer is much shorter”.
Holcomb’s email to the committee was obtained by The Associated Press.
Brooks and Rokita filed paperwork withdrawing from their congressional re-election bids last week.
“The priorities of the Trump presidency will be the priorities of the president, and I will serve in a capacity, if I have the privilege, that the president defines”, Pence said. Linking up with Trump will only hurt the governor’s brand in the long run. Brooks handed out pamphlets to delegates Thursday morning in hopes of swaying their vote.
Brooks calls her rivals “friends” and hopes she is able to answer any questions delegates have prior to next week’s appointment.

“Susan has a demonstrated record of winning tough elections”, Christie said. “I hope it will help put me over the top”. The bill did not make it out of committee. This is the first time in state history that the committee will determine their candidate for governor.
