Gov. Wolf defends accepting Syrian refugees
The most important duty for our governor is to protect Pennsylvanians first and foremost.

“(Many) are fleeing the same kind of butchers and madmen that carried out the deplorable terror attacks in Paris, Beirut and Egypt in recent weeks”, he said.
Toomey said he could support bringing Syrian refugees to the US, provided the federal government could come up with a reliable vetting process. I can only assume his motivations are purely political. I’m opposed to the lack of scrutiny on these refugees coming into the county.
One of the terrorists implicated in the Paris attack is suspected as posing as a refugee in order to get into France.
“It’s a matter of we have a lot of responsibilities at home that our state government is not addressing and our federal government is ignoring”, he said.
“It is the first petition Gass has ever created and he found Change.org by googling ‘how to create a petition”.
He plans on keeping the petition open until the end of the week when he will email it to Gov. Wolf and members of the state Legislature.
Wolf also joined a Tuesday evening conference call between President Barack Obama and governors, but the Wolf administration declined to provide details.
“The possibility this will change |Gov”.
He said the screening methods in place, in his opinion, are not adequate and could endanger the lives of county residents and of the United States. “And if he wants to be reelected it might give him something to think about”.
A few federal legislators, including U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster, R-Hollidaysburg, have taken steps to overturn that law and replace it with the Resettlement Accountability National Security Act of 2015 (HR 2214), a bill that prohibits the admission of refugees into the United States until Congress passes a joint resolution giving the Department of Homeland Security authority to resume admitting refugees.
Meehan, former chairman of the House’s Counterterrorism and Intelligence subcommittee, led a hearing on the potential threats of refugee resettlement programs in 2011.
Congressional Republicans, however, citing national security concerns, considered flexing their muscles to stop any influx of Syrian refugees.
As of Wednesday, a partisan collection of 30 Republican and 1 Democratic governor had issued statements in opposition of accepting Syrian refugees into their states.
Wolf, a Democrat, has reiterated he will not be joining them.
Rep. Scott Petri, R-178, said in a statement he will sponsor a resolution asking Wolf to “reject the placement of Syrian refugees in the commonwealth until the federal government establishes increased security procedures to sufficiently screen the refugees”, and request that the president “direct the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to review its security procedures for vetting refugees and to send a report detailing the tighter security measures to the states under consideration to receive refugees”.

State Sen. Richard Alloway said this week that he has received “numerous” communications from area residents concerned about the federal government’s ability to screen refugees well enough to keep terrorists from slipping in with those fleeing the violence in Syria and truly needing help.
