Government aims to bring GST bill for last-minute vote

The comment came soon after the Congress forced an adjournment in the Rajya Sabha, not allowing the constitutional amendment bill on goods and services tax to be taken up for debate. When the house reassembled at 2 p.m., Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien allowed Janata Dal-United member K.C. Tyagi to raise a matter under rule 267.

Vivek Dixit, who has earlier written a film Sancha, starring Anupam Kher, said that the film will end with Mr Yadav’s first address after becoming the chief minister in which he said, “Aaj Lohia ka sapna poora ho gaya… aaj ek kisan ka beta mukhyamantri ban gaya”.

A visibly angry finance minister Arun Jaitley said the protests were aimed at stalling the economic growth of the country.

June industrial output growth quickened to 3.8 percent, and July inflation cooled to 3.78 percent, data showed, signs of stability that has drawn $13 billion of foreign fund investment and a spate of foreign companies setting up shop in India this year. TMC leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay also said that everyone should speak in the House, including Congress and government and debate the issue instead of creating stalemate.

While vowing to pursue GST, Jaitley charged the Congress with delaying much-needed reforms and slowing the economy.

Mahajan had called the meeting with representatives of all political parties to find a way out of the logjam in the lower house.

The life and times of politician Mulayam Singh Yadav will get a big screen treatment with a biopic on the Samajwadi Party leader, starring Raghubir Yadav, in the works.

He also said the house can not function according to the whims and fancies of the Congress leadership.

The Lok Sabha, meanwhile, saw protests and sloganeering from the Congress over its demand for the resignation of the three BJP leaders.

The Congress has been upsetting the working of Parliament over their interest of evacuation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje for supposedly helping previous IPL boss Lalit Modi.
