Overruling differences between the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the Cauvery Supervisory Committee had earlier in the day ordered Karnataka to release 3,000 cusecs water per day to Tamil Nadu between September 21 and September 30.

The SC asked Additional Solicitor General Pinky Anand to issue a notification constituting the Cauvery Water Management Board (CWMB) within four weeks.

Every revision of the court’s order has resulted in Karnataka releasing more water to Tamil Nadu, which is demanding the water to save its samba crop. “It will be an erroneous order if any pro tem arrangement is made”. “I humbly request people to maintain peace”, Home Minister G Parameshwara said.
During the special session, the government hopes to get a resolution passed unanimously against the release of Cauvery water.
Facing criticism over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the issue, despite the state writing to him twice seeking his intervention, the state BJP leaders have chose to boycott the all-party meet.

Even Opposition partied, including Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Tamil Nadu Congress, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), Left parties and Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), supported the bandh called by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
