Government confident of GST bill’s passage in this session
The government will seek to ensure that the bill on a pan-India goods and services tax (GST) will be passed in the upcoming session of parliament that starts on July 18, parliamentary affairs minister Venkaiah Naidu said on Wednesday.

The government is hopeful of the passage of the GST bill in this session amid indications that a number of regional parties have broken ranks with Congress on the issue and are willing to extend their support to this crucial economic reform measure. He said that he would speak to all parties, even if it requires personal talks.
“If the GST is passed, Indian economy will grow further”.
“The session will begin from July 18…” The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, headed by Home Affairs Minister Rajnath Singh, recommended the dates during a meeting on Wednesday.
The model GST law approved at the state finance ministers’ meeting has thereafter been published, inviting comments from stakeholders.
“The opposition Congress party, however, has so far blocked the proposal in parliament”. In a record of sorts, the bill was also passed by the Lok Sabha on the same day.
In May, after the Budget session of Parliament got over, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA government expressed “satisfaction” over the performance of both houses of Parliament and said its “persistent outreach” has resulted in better functioning of the legislature “despite heat on some issues”.
“Some of them are referred to the Standing Committees”.
“If the government doesn’t push it in this session, it won’t happen during the remaining regime of the Modi government”, he added.

Naidu said as Parliamentary Affairs Minister he has asked all the ministers to “find out latest position vis-a-vis their respective bills” and prepare to give notice to the chairs on the concerned bills.
