Government prepares huge ‘National Unity Day’ celebration on Sardar Patel’s
On this occasion of 140th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, PM Narendra Modi flagged off Run for Unity at Rajpath in New Delhi.

Recalling that it was Patel who worked for bringing together various states after the independence of the country, Sharma said it was he who had banned the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Singh (RSS) after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi by Nathu Ram Godse.
This day is celebrated in remembrance of the first woman prime minister of India, Indira Gandhi, and the nation’s first home minister Sardar Vallabbhai Patel.

Describing Sardar as the architect of modern India, he said Patel ensured unity of the country which helped it prosper. “He did not want the nation to go back to being scattered after he left, that is why during his rule, and he fought every divisive element in the nation and united India in a short time”, Prime Minister Modi said.
In addition the radio network will also broadcast the Sardar Patel Memorial Lecture 2015 delivered by the Union Minister of Finance, Corporate Affairs and Information & Broadcasting Arun Jaitley on 26 October.
Modi said it was not for us to evaluate the works of great people but to remember their contributions and to seek inspiration for generations to come.
Speaking at the Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration programme, former prime minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday said the Land Acquisition laws must be fair, equitable, just, democratic and humane. He termed it an “injustice” and a “big sin” against the “Iron Man of India”.
