The National Vietnam Veterans Day commemorative service at the Arsenal was hosted by Vietnam Veterans of America 299 and included a reading by fellow veterans of the names of the roughly 200 local men who were killed in the war. The memorial also includes “The Three Servicemen” statue and the Vietnam Women’s Memorial. S. troops and civilian contractors withdrew from Vietnam, marking the end of the ten year United States military involvement.
It is our honor and privilege to provide VA care and services to those Vietnam Veterans enrolled for VA care at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center and VA Healthcare Annex in Saginaw, as well as at our Community Based Outpatient Clinics in Alpena, Bad Axe, Cadillac, Cheboygan County, Clare, Gaylord, Grayling, Oscoda, and Traverse City, Mich. “Regardless of whether the war was popular or not, they answered the call of duty, and they served with honor”.
In attendance will be Army General (Ret.) Larry Ellis, combat Vietnam veteran, former Commanding General of U. S. Forces Command (Fort McPherson) who is now serving on the State Board of Regents. Approximately 7.2 million of these Veterans are alive today.
Brown said it is important to recognize the contributions and sacrifices of all veterans, especially the Vietnam-era veterans, many of whom were shunned upon their return home, because freedom is not free. “We need to know that they’re remembered, and I as a Veteran need to know that I in the future that I will be remembered when I pass”, said Wohlford.
