“The PWD has been asked to identify all dark spots in Delhi, as soon as possible, and also identify spots where street lights are not present and places where they are installed but are not working”, an official statement said. “Contractors who don’t pay min wages will b blacklistd”, tweeted Kejriwal. HODs must ensure workers get minimum wages. The Cabinet also decided all dark spots should be lit up to enhance safety and security. The department will also be responsible for bringing out the proposal to install CCTVs all over Delhi, especially in the 274 “vulnerable” locations.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that head of departments must ensure that workers get minimum wages.
In its manifesto, the AAP had promised to install CCTV cameras in DTC buses, bus stands, crowded places to intimidate attackers and deter crime against women.
The Delhi government’s labour department has been asked to prepare a policy for contract labourers.
Government officials also said that if the Centre doesn’t sanction immediate release of the portion of the Rs 1,000 crore Nirbhaya fund meant for Delhi, the Delhi government is ready to pay for the lights as well as the CCTVs.
Minimum wage of unskilled workers were raised from Rs 8,632 to Rs 9,048. The wages were hiked in April this year.
For semi-skilled workers, fitters and welders, wages were increase from Rs 9,542 to Rs 10,010 per month.
