Gowdy: I’m not running for majority leader
“The Republican Party, but more importantly, our country, would be remarkably well served with Trey as Majority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives”. Current Majority Whip Louisianan Steve Scalise and Budget Committee Chairman Tom Price from Georgia has both announced their desire to run for Majority leader.

Throughout much of Tuesday, different lawmakers who spoke with Gowdy gave different accounts on the possibility he might enter the race. “If you want the best person to make the Republican case if you want the best person to talk about why conservatism is the right answer for America, Trey Gowdy is our best foot forward”.
A former prosecutor, Gowdy is chairman of the select House committee investigating the 2012 Benghazi attacks.
On Tuesday, Chaffetz was asked about the shuffling in leadership with the resignation of House Speaker John Boehner, and the Utahn brought up the possibility of Gowdy taking a leadership role-calling the idea “Heaven-sent”.
“That is why I am asking my colleagues to join me in drafting Trey Gowdy to be our majority leader”, Rep. Love added in a later statement.
If Gowdy were to become majority leader, it would be nearly impossible to continue as chair of the Benghazi committee, which will welcome Clinton on 22 October.
However, fellow Republican Rep. Mick Mulvaney, R-S.C., later tweeted that he had spoken with Gowdy and that he was not interested in the post.
“I’m not”, Gowdy, the chairman of the Home’s Choose Committee on Benghazi, stated after rising from a GOP conference meeting.
“He made it clear to me, in no uncertain terms, that upon further reflection last night and today, he is OUT of any consideration for any leadership position”, Mulvaney wrote.
Support for Gowdy to succeed McCarthy remains minimal, which first emerged after a Republican conference gathering on Tuesday morning, with the endorsement of New York representative Lee Zeldin as well.

Though it’s unlikely Gowdy will actively campaign for the number-two spot, he’d accept the position were it forced upon him, Chaffetz countered.
