Amla insisted that Graeme had gone through hard cricket conditions and therefore he was well aware of ways to turn the things around for the team.
The second test will no doubt tell the tale for the rest of the series, and maybe even settle it. England will be looking to add to the benchmark that they made in the first test, and add to South Africa’s pain by beating them again, especially after a very short turnaround from the first test, so South Africa wouldn’t have had much time to change and prepare.
Graeme Smith has linked up with South Africa as a batting consultant as they seek to bounce back from defeat in the first Test with England.
He picked up four wickets in the first innings, followed by three in the second to help England register a 241 runs victory over the No 1 Test team in the world.
Cook said 2015 had been an “up-and-down year” for England and he wanted consistency to be the key word this year.

“If he’s fit and ready and confident then he’ll be opening the bowling, but we don’t want to hinder ourselves and have an injury caused that we could have prevented”, said Cook.
Alastair Cook called on his England team to press home their advantage against a South African side who have turned to former captain Graeme Smith in a desperate attempt to avert a crisis.
“He was a wonderful captain for us and he knows more than most guys how to play Test cricket and how to deal with tough times”, explained Amla at a media conference on Friday.
Kyle Abbott, who reported stiffness in his hamstring on Wednesday, must face a fitness test to determine whether he stays in the side or is replaced by Chris Morris or Hardus Viljoen, neither of whom have played Test cricket.
Smith, who was highly critical of the selectors and his successor, Amla, this week joined up with the squad yesterday. Can we have an Edgbaston, Trent Bridge fortnight and can we do that in Durban and Cape Town?
