Gramercy shows after last week’s shooting at TI show
Some folks like comedian Andrew Schulz and NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton took it upon themselves to say some pretty ridiculous things about rappers and rap music. Yesterday, Joey Bada$$ announced on Twitter that his scheduled show at Irving Plaza was cancelled by the NYPD, and this morning more cancellations have been announced. As of right now, the show is still listed on the Irving Plaza website, though Joey has already tweeted out an alternate location for a show so his fans won’t be left out to dry.

The fallout continues from last week’s infamous T.I. concert shooting in NY, as concert giant Live Nation postponed four rap concerts – three at Irving Plaza, the site of the T.I. concert, and one at Gramercy Theater, which it also operates.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, a venue spokesperson said, “In light of last week’s tragic event, we are acting with an overabundance of caution and coordinating a going forward strategy with the New York Police Department that may also include a curfew”. The other acts affected were Canadian rock duo Black Pistol Fire and Guns N Roses cover band Appetite for Destruction. A rep for Vince Staples did not immediately return a request for comment.
Concert organizer Live Nation took three rap concerts off this week’s Irving Plaza schedule. One of Troy Ave.’s bodyguards, Ronald McPhatter, who was 33, was killed at the Irving Plaza.

Rapper Roland Collins, 33, whose stage name is Troy Ave., was arrested on attempted murder charges. Troy Ave was shot in the leg in what police believe to a self-inflicted wound. That assailant dropped the gun in the backstage area, the defense said, at which point Troy Ave picked up the weapon and opened fire on the initial shooter.
