Grammys 2016: Sheeran wins song of the year

Swift, 26, made history as the first woman to win album of the year twice after also taking the Grammy in 2009 for “Fearless”, and delivered a feisty acceptance speech on female empowerment.

Rapper Kendrick Lamar led the Grammy winners on Monday with five wins but was shut out of the night’s top categories as Taylor Swift nabbed album of the year in an upset victory. Then, she looked around and found Kendrick Lamar who was on his feet clapping for Swift.

Surviving Eagles members, joined by Jackson Browne, played a stately version of “Take it Easy”, with a giant Frey portrait backing them as the song came to a close.

Mom and Dad: Ed Sheeran made moms and dads throughout the television audience melt by saluting his beaming parents after winning song of the year.

The Weekend picked up two Grammys for best urban contemporary album and best R&B performance. Kanye went up on the stage and grabbed the mic from the young star’s hands only to say, Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you and Imma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time.

“This is something you never ever dream of so I’m super grateful for it”, he said.

“My heart was exploding”, she said later.

“Rihanna’s doctor put her on vocal rest for 48 hours because she was at risk of hemorrhaging her vocal chords”, a statement from her representative read.

Collaborative performances were one of the themes of the Grammys: Carrie Underwood sang with Sam Hunt; Ellie Goulding and Andra Day performed; and while Lovato, Legend, Luke Bryan and Tyrese sang with Lionel Richie to honor the icon.

Other winners included the other album of the year nominees, Alabama Shakes (for alternative music album and best rock song) and Chris Stapleton (for country solo performance), as well as former President Jimmy Carter (for the audiobook of his memoir, “A Full Life: Reflections on Ninety”), Mark Ronson feat.
