According to The Times, the club began negotiations with representatives of the two players nearly a year ago to secure their long-term futures in north London.
Their current positions mean each player will be in a stronger bargaining position going into the new round of discussions, and Arsenal will be desperate to ensure that two of their biggest ever investments will not enter the final year of their deals. “The players are very keen to stay and we are talking”.
This proved fruitless, however, and further talks will not continue until the transfer window closes on August 31.
Mesut Ozil believes that Arsenal are lucky to have secured the signing of Granit Xhaka in the summer transfer window..
