No shift in policy The public is unlikely to respond favourably to an address that offered neither a shift in policy from Obama’s under-fire strategy to beat the jihadists nor any dramatic changes in the military campaign he is waging.

During a primetime address from the Oval Office, Obama’s address comes after 14 people were shot and killed in San Bernardino, California, on December 2.

Obama is calling the Islamic State “thugs, killers” and a “cult of death”. And he implored Americans to not turn against Muslims at home, saying the Islamic State is driven by a desire to spark a war between the West and Islam. Three days after the attacks in Paris, he stood before Parliament and in blunt, tough language called for his country to act urgently to counter the growing threat from ISIS.

First, our military will continue to hunt down terrorist plotters in any country where it is necessary.

Moving on, President Obama didn’t give any new details about the investigation into the San Bernardino shooting. “That we have always met challenges, whether war or depression, natural disasters or terrorist attacks, by coming together around our common ideals as one nation and one people.”, he continued.

President Barack Obama addressed how the US will confront terrorism on Sunday night, but Republican presidential candidates have criticized him for not doing enough. ISIL is one of several acronyms for the Islamic State jihadist group.

“Let’s not forget that freedom is more powerful than fear“, President Obama said. “Pathetic response to the worst attack on U.S. since 9/11”.

Obama previously ordered the USA military to bomb ISIS positions in Syria and Iraq.

The shooting in San Bernardino was carried out by California couple Farook and Tashfeen Malik, who according to the Islamic State terror groups were supporters of its ideology.

“We would like to see leaders in the Muslim community stand up and speak out more forcefully, in terms of condemning these hateful, radicalizing messages that we see from extremist organizations”, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Monday. “I think it’s time for Congress to vote to demonstrate that the American people are united and committed to this fight”.

President Barack Obama stated that it was “insane” that persons which are on the No-Fly list can walk in any store in America and buy a gun, CNN reported on Saturday. “What could possibly be the argument for allowing a terrorist suspect to buy a semiautomatic weapon? This is a matter of national security”, he said.

The president repeated his call for stricter gun laws, arguing the US must make it harder for would-be mass shooters to get the guns they use to kill.

“Nothing that happened in the speech tonight is going to assuage people’s fears”, presidential candidate Sen.

“We were founded upon a belief in human dignity that no matter who you are or where you come from or what you look like or what religion you practice, you are equal in the eyes of God and equal in the eyes of the law”, he said.

“If I am elected President, I will direct the Department of Defense to destroy ISIS”.
