It will be the first time since 1979 that observers from the US will be able to watch a total solar eclipse.

The eclipse, which will happen August 21, 2017, actually has a trademarked name – the Great American Eclipse – and began trending as various media outlets reported hitting the T-minus two-year mark. That’s when all of North America will get a once-in-a-lifetime glimpse at a total solar eclipse.

“Scientists formulated the idea that Americans will be capable of witnessing a stupendous quality of light, |with an wonderful light show of iridescence, scintillation, and delicate colors”.

But, taking into consideration its astronomical explanation, essentially, there is nothing to fear. The entire US are expected to witness the grand event. Therefore, the umbra is an area of complete shadow formed via the total obstruction of sunlight by the moon.

Though many people think otherwise, total solar eclipses aren’t rare.

Recently, eclipse enthusiasts had to travel to remote and distant locations, such as Ellesmere Island, Canada, the Norwegian archipelago known as Svalbard or the Easter Island.

Astronomers warn eclipse watchers, whether using binoculars, telescopes or just the naked eye, to never stare directly at the sun without special precautions such as using special filters.

As per experts, only few cities through the middle of the continental United States will be in the “path of totality” and get the best view of the phenomenon.
