Lisa Wheatcroft, owner the Sweet Dream Cake Company, also initially thought Nadiya might not have survived the first few weeks. FIVE. “I can see that my emotions match my face, and I can watch that back, so it’s really weird”.
Applications are now open for contestants to take part in the seventh series of “The Great British Bake Off”.
Losing out on the big prize, but by no means disappointed, were trainee doctor Tamal Ray, 29, and photographer Ian Cumming, 41.
Luton-born Nadiya hid the trophy so no-one would know she had won. Unsurprisingly, audiences and social media users watching the teary display could not help but weep along with the duo. I’m never going to say “maybe”.
“The whole thing was just unbelievable, and every week I would be stressed out from combining work with tinkering with recipes at home”.
Prime Minister David Cameron said he was rooting for her, as did Chancellor George Osborne who tweeted “Go Nadiya!!”.
And what makes it all the more lovely is how humbled she seems by it all.
After nine years as a stay-at-home mum, she said it is “my time now for an adventure” and has begun studying for an Open University degree in childhood and youth studies. “I’m just as British as anyone else, and I hope I have proved that”.
“I was absolutely exhausted before the last two days of filming because I had done so much practice at home”.
“As we grew up we would buy apple pies and Swiss rolls, and by the time I was 15, I was making puddings for my family”. “She paid tribute to husband Abdal, 34, presenting his favourite, a lemon drizzle cake, with regrets that she’d never been able to have the traditional sponge at their Bangladeshi ceremony”. Its stand was decorated in red, white and blue sari material.
Nadiya got a hug from Paul Hollywood…
Mary and Paul praised both showstoppers.
Have you got an incredible baking creation you’re proud of?
Nadiya has become the sixth victor in the show’s history.

But probably the most telling reaction to her win came from Mary Berry, whose usual reserve crumbled when she broke down in tears and had to dart off camera. The bakers had to make raspberry mille-feuille and Paul Hollywood admitted that they’d picked the challenge because all of the finalists had struggled with pastry.
